Bullshit

There is trying to tell the truth.
There is lying ………..
and there is bullshit.

Lyin’ and truthin’ are both attempts at playing the reality game.
Bullshit is just reality avoidance.

Bullshitters often gather together in groups; with an unspoken agreement that they will not call each other out on their bullshit. Sometimes these groups can be very powerful and their bullshit can overwhelm groups of liars ….. or even truthers.
They normally achieve this by flipping out so much bullshit into the conversational air, that everyone loses all sense of reality.

The more things are threatening ….. the more people will have recourse to bullshit.
Bullshit is everywhere now; but I would even go as far as to predict a coming bubble in bullshit.

Bullshit is a natural self-protection mechanism.
But mass bullshitting, on a high societal scale, is very dangerous.

Beware ….. Bullshit ahead~!!

An article on bullshit

As long as we have politicians and ‘people with opinions’ there will never be peak bullshit.

Unfortunately in my attempt to avoid contact with my expanded definition of bullshit which includes 99% of TV and films, football, cricket, tennis, olympic games (except women’s beach volleyball), general gossip and chat, I find myself socially incompatible with most of the human race.

I do not have a problem with this.

But sometimes I wonder if I should?

Other people seem to be far more concerned about it than me.

“Why don’t you go and talk to Pete down the road?”

“Because all he ever talks about is Luton football club, what he did before he retired and how much he spent on shopping yesterday. I’ve heard it before”

“Come on, he likes a bit of company and maybe we can go and have a BBQ together”

“Sorry, I’d rather have needles driven under my toenails”

Cummon ………. Cricket~!? ……………. all that battin’ and bowlin’ (and stuff).
      No.
But, the point is vaguely interesting.
When engaged in what is meant to be an exchange of information, to stress some sort of point ………. the protagonists can resort to plain old `lies`.  Or, the try and put over what can be defended as `truth`.  Or, there is another category, which has no regard for `truth and/or lies` ….. and that is `bullshit`.
It is a way of pretending to be serious, without actually being serious.

I accept that most `talk` is bullshit, because it is just `playing ego games with words`; but sometimes in life, conversations go on where more than bullshit is needed.

      Eh~!?

The guys that are most adept at bullshit are the sociopaths.

        http://www.mcafee.cc/Bin/sb.html

My brother was one and he put my parents (and me) through a whole load of, well, shit, really. He could convincingly relate a whole load of bullshit and manipulate people into either believing it or fearing what he would do if argued against. He became a barrister after a first class degree at Cambridge, inside of a couple of years became a very talented piano player. But drink, lifestyle and lying finally caught up with him. He is now bankrupt; after managing to convince a few people to lend him a lot of cash which he could not repay.

I could never tell whether he believed what he said or whether it was a game to him.

I wonder if my problem is the ready access to information through the internet. I can sit here and if I think of a topic I hyperlink off to it and check it out. Sitting at a table one is restricted to the knowledge of the people plus a bullshit quota. So if somebody says something I am not sure of, I immediately look for the non-existent “search” box to verify it….

But 99.99% of the time the conversations revolve around utterly banal nonsense like football, and I have no interest in football statistics or the  game played last night.

        I am a self-selected social-outcast, I guess.

Yes, having been round mega-rich people in my working life; I have come across many many of these types (anything to avoid doing an honest day’s work).

          They are dangerous~!
          But also a bit special.

I think there could be an increasing tendency toward bullshit by normal people, in order to avoid admitting they are now lost in a too-complicated world.
