    Dear Mr. Mystic:

Good presentation.  I like your improved format.  Easier to follow along.

Have you seen that Republicans are toying with the idea of a gold standard?

We are living in interesting times.

They are toying with lots of stuff …. ( …. not much of it in any way sensible).
Shit, I hope they get elected ….. You lot deserve ‘em~!!

interesting that every US recession involved a permanent decline in manufacturing jobs

  • Bigcollapso

When I first learned what was coming (2002-2004) I told everyone that would listen, and many that wouldn’t. A couple of the guys at a company that I was consulting at were believers, and they would shout “Shut her down” when they saw me. That is all I can think of as I see this.

The manufacturing jobs were exported to countries that had cheaper production costs. Possibly due to currency values, less environmental legislation, less workers rights, less employment legislation.

So to put it another way we exported production to slave labour countries, with poor labour and environmental records. There is a certain hypocrisy in all this as our standard of living is subsidised by others?

Yes, there in lies the dilemma.

This bigger picture, which I think of often, throws all my mechanistic fixing thoughts into a right wobble.

The irony is, that the new slaves welcome their new condition.

Maybe they are aspiring for their kids to be like us? No doubt they are being sold those aspirations.

I saw the Chinese documentary film “the last train home’ a year or two back. The sacrifices made by parents & their manic drive to see their children better off than themselves, was… well…fanatical.

I makes `sense` out of life (in a queer way).

Suppose it looks like an escape from serfdom?

        • http://overthepeak.com/wordpress/ Mystic

As I said to Axion ………… It makes sense out of a life, that otherwise is pretty senseless.
To feel that, `things are going somewhere`.
          (Napoleon’s troops come to mind)
