Navigating through a Room full of Elephants – Nate Hagens

Here’s another presentation from ASPO 2012 (see the post below this one for an ASPO 2012 presentation about the experience of shale gas production in the U.S.).

The video presentation below is from Nate Hagens, and I found a comment about him, from the comment section in youtube below the video, intriguing (apt, I think, for OTP):

Although I have a strong aversion to guru-worship, Hagens ranks highly in terms of the people that I would recommend for their insight into the key global issues that humans face. What I really like about Hagens’ work is his MBA & Wall Street experience, which he later moved beyond by getting a PhD in Ecological Economics. If energy & money are essentially the two most important systems in the world, then I think Hagens has one of the best understandings of these two important systems.

Here’s a very nicely produced 15 minute Q & A interview with Hagens (a kind of thumbnail version of the longer presentation in the main post above):

To get the embed onto OTP front page -
On YouTube video press `share` button.
Drop down lets you press `embed` button…… (choose size width 400).
Copy code ……….. paste code into post.

      Hello Linda
      X.

    • http://overthepeak.com/wordpress/ Mystic

I have put a 400 width up for you.
Perhaps you would like it bigger~?  (anything up to 600 is a go~!)

      • lgrinaker

Yes, I’ll give the 600 a go (for a little practice).

        Thanks, Nick!

Let’s see.  Here are the size options I found when pressing on the “embed” button on youtube:

          560 × 315
          640 × 360
          853 × 480
          1280 × 720

And I chose the 640 x 360.  I’m not sure what you were referring to, Nick…

Over on the right (of those options), you can choose a custom size.
            Try on the `shale gas` video~!?

            • lgrinaker

              Ha! Ha!  Success!

Okay, they’re both set up with a width of 600 now.  (It’s nice how the other dimension adjusts automatically.)

It seems my computer is running a little slow, so it took me a little longer to get things set up, but they are now, I think.

              Cool! ;-)

                Yep …… officially Cool~!

    Thanx for that video Linda

    • lgrinaker

      You’re welcome, Hans.

I think it was Emma who posted one of the first videos on here from ASPO 2012 (that of Robert Hirsch), so it’s been on mind to check out some of the presentations for a while.  I’ve just now begun to watch a few.  It’s quite something now that ASPO has been doing this for several years.

good video, Hagen does appear to have the right attitude and there are many of his sort of thinking (but not too many to make a difference).  Unofortunately they dont get the attention that they (and we) deserve and he’s probably right in that we will deal with these issues collectively once there is no getting away from the turbulence except when it starts to encroach on the 1%….Let’s hope that time doesn’t come around.

I especially appreciated his image and discussion of elephants (big problems) intertwined.

Thanks for putting this video on OTP.
I like Nates integral view of human behavior, the economic system and energy/resources.

Super!  Thanks much. 1 watch down – definitely a 2 watcher at least.
