Yeah baby – dats what I’m talkin about. No wait… dats what we’re all talking about. :)

eh boy… I’ve got so much to do with my business… now I’ve got someone else to listen to for hours.

Orlov is a bit of a conspiracy nut.  He has also being preaching this collapse is nigh spiel for years.  He tends to exaggerate the issues.  The Boston black out was caused by an ordinary transformer fire.  It was quickly repaired and the power outage only affected a small section of Boston.  But, he makes it seem that the entire national grid is collapsing because the power plants are systemically failing.  That’s where he loses his credibility.  He is one of these “Doomer entertainers”, like Alex Jones, Gerald Celente, Peter Schiff, etc.  I am sure he does many interviews on that idiotic Russia Today program.  But, I like listening to other points of view, and I do agree with some of their ideas.  Thanks for bringing different perspectives to the mix, Emma!

Thanks for the heads up!  I’m generally put off by loud mouths and folks who are a bit too cock sure about much of anything.

I’m already anticipating books on why the world didn’t end on 12/21/2012 and a new revised date established.
The show must go on and the money made.  :)

They’re not all bad, and some of it useful, while most of it is just entertaining.  I like to imagine these guys walking around with their bug-out bags, an AK-47 and a satchel filled with gold coins.  OK, now what~?  What’s the next move~?  Oh shit, it’s starting to rain.  Where’s my damn Navy SEAL poncho~?!
Doom and Gloom analysts, Preppers, Religious nut jobs, Survivalists is Big Business now.  Lots of money to be made cashing in on ordinary people’s ignorance and fears.  Some of the ideas are rational and should be implemented, but most of it pure Snake Oil.  They even sell 25 year food packs.  25 years~?!  WTF~?!
It’s not a bad idea to have a month’s supply of canned and dry food, water, meds, candles, batteries, lanterns, flashlights, wood burning stove for heating and cooking, etc.  Simple stuff; soup, tuna, pasta, rice, beans, evaporated milk, coffee, etc.  Most of it has a 3 year shelf life, and can easily rotated into your daily consumption.  I think the Mormons require everyone to have a 6 month supply.
I lost power for a week last winter.  It was nice to have all those things handy.  I went shopping as soon as the news announced a major storm was approaching.  Stocked up on everything.  Filled up the my car’s gas tank.  Filled one bathtub with water.  Withdrew a stack of 20 dollar bills from my bank.  Brought a big pile of wood into the house.  I went back to the store 2 days later and the shelves were almost empty~!  Many trucks couldn’t deliver because of the storm, so a week later, the shelves were still empty.  Our modern “Just-in-time” delivery system means most stores only have a 3 day supply in the back warehouse area.  Try spending one weekend without power, water and HVAC just to see how dependent we have become.  It would be a fun test for you.  I know you like thinking outside the box.  Now, try living outside the box.
The storm was pretty bad; much worse than they predicted.  Knocked down hundreds of trees in my town.  Roads closed, no power for at least a week, police and emergency services over-loaded.
When bad times hit, you are on your own.  Stick close to your family, friends and neighbors.  Share what you can, and be ready for the worst.  It’s the same reasoning why you have health, auto and home insurance policies.  Just in case…
I’m ain’t gonna be no damn Katrina victim, waiting on the gub-mint to save my ass~!

I learn’t about peak oil in 2006 and was sure we would be in turmoil by now but somehow the system keeps limping on.

    • Emmazedbend

Thanks; I gather your’e not a peakoiler then? I used to listen to Celente, Jones and Schiff when I was first trying to find out about all this stuff mainly to understand the politics and money system but now I just stick to peak oil people as I feel access to energy will be the last card to be played.

      • Paul

I am a Peak Oil person too.  I am a Peak many things in fact~!  I followed a similar path when trying to decipher all this insanity.  After awhile, you develop a filter to separate the intelligent talkers from the bullshit artists.  But, I am always on a learning curve and will be until the day I die.
