We are on the road to war I am convinced.
Middle East will flash, and spread to Europe. We Euros, love a good punch up in dis-functional family kind of way.
The country’s have agreed to release strategic Oil reserves.
    IMF talk of Oil Spike.
Obama, introducing new rules on oil speculation/manipulation
Russia Is Massing Troops On Iran’s Northern Border
Japans Defence force moved into gulf

Drop in Suez traffic might be new route exploring.

    • http://overthepeak.com/wordpress/ Mystic

It would have to be in the Middle East I suppose.
Not ideal fighting conditions, but certainly `strategic` (as they say).
Syria looks good for a good place for a proxy war to get things going.

      • NascentMind

A proxy for sure with real weapons, but the larger war may not be like we imagine it, more cloak and dagger with financial punching and
industrial attacks to damage competitiveness. Like that computer virus. Which damaged and shut down Iran’s Nuke plants.
        Sort of a Lukewarm war.
Hope I’m wrong or They could be just playing with big boys toys.

The sanctions on Iran have not yet been fully implemented.  I expect a drop in Suez Canal traffic when they really kick in this summer.  World GDP will follow that downward trend.  Perfect storm event in the making; sanctions fully implemented reduce trade and increase oil prices, summer driving season drives oil even higher, strong possibility of a destabilizing war in Syria.  The chaos from regime change in Syria will spread to Lebanon.  Israel would love to see Bashar al-Assad join Saddam Hussein and Col Gaddafi.  Also, Obama needs the Jewish vote to beat Romney.  American Jews overwhelmingly voted and financially funded Obama over McCain in the last election.  They are not happy with his performance thus far.  He needs to make them happy before November, or he’ll never beat Romney.  This is going to be a very tight election.  The Independent vote is up for grabs and will swing the election either way.

    • http://overthepeak.com/wordpress/ Mystic

      I was readin/listening to (?) something which talked of the `swing voters`.
Yes, both sides will do anything to please them.  (Not the Jewish lobby but the real `swingers`)
Trouble is (and always has been apparantely) the decided are decided because they have brains……the swing voters, on the other hand, are the most brain dead bunch of mofos that actally draw breath in your fair land~!

      • Paul

For the most part, that is true.  Just flash some shiny trinkets and they will follow you.  The swing vote is growing larger every year.  A part of the swing vote is also thinking moderates, who will vote for the “best man”.  They are neither the party faithful, nor the idiotic, wishy-washy flavor of the month crowd.  “Ohhh, I like his smile~!”  Moderates are a dying breed here, when it comes to political scheming.  Politics have moved to the extremes, far right or far left.  Same trend in Europe, no?  A moderate third party could gain real power eventually, but they cannot agree on a basic platform.
The strength of Euro politics is the numerous political parties.  It diffuses the fanaticism and often ends in a coalition govt.  On the downside though, the dilution also means nothing gets accomplished~!  Dilution is preferable to goose-stepping.
Reminds me, still reading up on Orwell, et al.  I can see why you get exhausted.  This is not easy reading.  I am amazed how your brain can jump from such diverse subject matters with such relative ease.  Bravo, Mystic~!  Also, there is so much information available now!  Remember the days when you would start your search by reaching for the Encyclopedia Britannica.  Then, you’d read a book or two, and a few scholarly articles.
Now, you google George Orwell and you get 26 Million entries.  Information overload~!  Where to start, which entries are valid and which ones are bullshit propaganda?  Often, you read diametrically opposing opinions.  Who is right~?  You spend hours and hours reading, and at the end, you are more confused than ever.  Paralysis by analysis.  I started with Kant and Hegel.  Online philosophical research?  Forget it~!  Way too many opinions to form a consensus.  It was so frustrating; it gave me a headache.  So, I switched to Hitchens and Orwell.  That was better, clearer, but still, somuch information~!  Who to trust?  I did uncover one gem.  He was from what was called the New York Intellectuals back in the day.  He was considered by all to be a solid source for honest, scholarly, critical opinion.  Lionel Trilling.  Impartial reviewers are in short supply nowadays.  Now, mainstream intellectual discourse is inundated with partisan party apparatchiks; left or right.  The more I read about Orwell and his masterpiece, “1984″, the more convinced I am as to which direction we are heading.

a review of Lionel Trilling’s book (a collection of his essays), “The Moral Obligation to Be Intelligent” :

Tired and exhausted and darzn’t know why. Best have the old ticker and it’s pipelines checked. We know you exercise and eat healthy but… da genes may not be paying that much attention. I”ve known a few folks in their 50′s that became tired and exhausted and not know why – right before their heart attack and/or bypass surgery.

On the “Pain in Spain falls mainly on the Germains”

    Here’s a commentary with a few more links.http://theautomaticearth.org/Finance/spain-land-of-magical-financial-realism.html

The UK house prices, well, what a load of bollox.

They can ask what they want, but the real numbers lie in the selling prices.

2.9% in one month! WTF Presumably we can all now expect to to see a 30% plus increase on asking prices year on year? So hey up! Second mortgages all around, maybe Spain has some cheap “second homes” to invest in? And certainly we now deserve a holiday and maybe that 150 inch LED TV to watch the Olympic Games on.
An economic recovery based on increasing the debt pile based on non-productive property prices?

Yeah, it’s the “real deal” alright.

Looking forward to a few insight directly from the inside of the UK economy.

Unfortunately, we don’t have enough OTPers to cover these things.
Each thing that comes up, I want to trace it down to its roots………but, I can’t.
