Sehr geehrter Herr Mystic:Du musst diese Deutschlanders lieben …. die haben eine magische Art und Weise mit Maschinen! Ich weiß! Ich besitze ein!Sind die Französisch in Ordnung mit ihnen jetzt? :)

    • http://overthepeak.com/wordpress/ Mystic

Roboter müssen nicht einkaufen gehen.INET….German retail sales have been about flat for the last 15 years. More productivity, low unemployment, low wage rises……flat consumption.  Their savings have gone to other countries, who’s people have bought their production. That system is coming to an end. What next~!? (p.s. plenty of safety net, but also low personal debt)

      • John_by_the_creek

Gott sei Dank, verursachen, wenn sie es täten, würden die Parkplätze im Einkaufszentrum sein, dass noch viel schlimmer ….

It’s somewhat paradoxical as you described it; First thoughts as I read were: ”well-balance”; an almost quiescent state of affairs.

Expectations run high for “the champ”.  The follow-up performances are usually much more difficult than the initial victory.  More so than before, it seems the “clever brains” are poised to take command of the field.  How soundly we all sleep will be the measure of their success.

        • http://overthepeak.com/wordpress/ Mystic

It is fine and balanced, as long as no one was expecting internal growth……but they were~!
Not much harm done though…..as long as they don’t think it will continue.

(p.s. there was a mega run-up in private debt in the US 1920′s)

          • Windcutter

As long as the Germans continue to export shed loads of stuff, they do not need internal growth.

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_current_account_balance

It is the bunch at the bottom who have the issues.

Except the US of A, that enjoys having the USD as the world’s reserve currency and, as such, has the responsibility to shovel ‘em out by the super-carrier load so that the world’s economy can function.

            • http://overthepeak.com/wordpress/ Mystic

Depressions ream exporters disproportionately.  (I like the sound of that)

  • Windcutter

    Nice.

I like that technology and focus on quality, both for the product and its production.

Even though Mystic observes that the robots will not go out and buy stuff, the short clip only shows the final assembly and none of the myriad of workers engaged in making the components, presumably done elsewhere, the marketing, research and development to create such a plant.

Here we see an example of real value being made in an advanced economy.

If I was German I would be well pissed off to see the fruits of my investment being squandered on the Zorba’s in Greece.

    • http://overthepeak.com/wordpress/ Mystic

Yes indeed, it is better to have the something rather than the nothing.

The problem is, that the world is needing less and less somethings; so there will be more and more nothings.

      • Windcutter

The world doesn’t want or need anything.

The people are wanting more and more energy, food and iPads.
There will be a little disappointment running around.

  • Paul

It is showing off.  And it also frigging awesome~!
One thing, I wouldn’t want to be paying the heating, cooling and electrical bills for that building.  They better not shut down their nuke plants just yet.  As for the robots, UAW workers be afraid.  Be very afraid.
Phaeton sales in America were miserable.  They sold a total of 820 cars in 2005.  A $100K VW didn’t go over well.  It’s still considered an economy car.  Branding.  VW owns Audi; I never understoodd why they were trying to compete against the Audi A8.  But, the Chinese love Phaetons, so VW fired up the plant again.  The Chinese love Buicks too?  Silly Chinese with rots and rots of money~!

VW still has the best ads of any car company.

“The newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Mystic, enjoy a leisurely drive, while house hunting in France.”

        • http://overthepeak.com/wordpress/ Mystic

That’s the baby.  It was ’76 when it was like that I rock’n'rolled~!

Mrs. Mystic had to wait until ’83 (and a 450SLC Mercedez)

          • Paul

Spitfire then a Mercedes coupe?!  Mystic was rollin’ like an original gang-stah~!  Sweet~!
The dosh must have been pouring in back then, eh?
Speaking of Spitfires, did you read that article about the British farmer/aviation buff who located 20 WW2 Spitfires buried in Burma.  They are still in their original packing crates.
He wants to bring them back to England, have them restored to air-worthiness, then fly them at air shows.
Cameron is helping him grease the skids with the Burmese govt.  Restoration will be funded by a private investor and should provide a few dozen jobs in England.  Also, Cameron can lease them if needed for riot control duties in the future.
            See, Public-Private partnerships can work~!

I saw the headline, but didn’t read the article.

              On the Merc.
Exhibition of young Mystic power thinking.
              Young…..making good money…..wants fancy car~!
Knows how the `joy of getting` something soon wears off.
Toddles up to Monte Carlo, spends big to hire a drop-top Merc for the week-end…..cruises the grand corniche in style……gives car back….job done……buys a Ford Escort~!

              • Paul

                Well played, Mystic, well played~!

A new car is like a new girlfriend.  After 3 months, it’s the same old thing.

                • http://overthepeak.com/wordpress/ Mystic

I spent from 1980 to 1995 almost permanently drunk, but still got some good work done.

                  • Paul

You’re kidding~?!  I don’t see you as a heavy drinker.  I kept a few California bar owners in the black from 1988 to 2006 in my 20′s and 30′s.  Not permanently drunk, but a good 3 or 4 nights a week.  Don’t die before you’re dead was my motto.  Or, as my favorite footballer George Best once said, “I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.”
Personally, I had a blast.  No regrets.  FIDO~!  Fuck it and Drive on~!

We did what we did…..and we now do what we do.

                    • Paul

Aye.  We’re onto more important matters now.  Saving the free world from financial and energy Armageddon~!

        • Lyle

I wanted one of those sooooo bad. Closest I got was a well used Fiat Spyder and of course that wasn’t all that close really.  :)
Another dream that didn’t come true was a Triumph Bonneville motorcycle.
I did manage to eventually own a nice MGB for a while.

          • Paul

They are both beautiful cars.  The Italians are expert designers.  I think they still do the Jaguar as well, another beautiful car.  Pininfarina design studio?  You might have been lucky not to have gotten the Spitfire.  English electronics and all.  I’m sure you probably experienced a negative cash flow with the Fiat.  Fix It Again, Tony!
Funny and sad story.  My cousin is an ace mechanic and handyman.  He is an Electrician by training, but just loves cars.  Years ago, he restored a Morgan convertible from the frame up; complete restoration  He even sent away to England to get the correct schematic for jig-sawing the dashboard from a beautiful piece of cherry wood that he had finished.  Some wise-ass Doctor saw him working on the car and immediately offered him $10K cash to buy it.  My cousin sold it to him.  My uncle had a shit fit explaining to him that is was worth at least twice or three times that amount.  My Dad wanted to buy it as well.  My cousin is very talented and sharp, but not in matters of business.  If I ever get rich, I’m buying a garage and workshop  for him to restore classic, collectible cars.  Of course, only after I’ve purchased a 1966 convertible Corvette w/ a 427 Big Block~!

            • Lyle

My dream car has always been a 1966 Goat ( GTO ). I just love the design of it and it’s big brother Bonneville. Of course the Bonny was tank size of the era.
My wife’s uncle did the show car thing. Owned a NAPA store – had his own machine shop, etc. But OMG… the time, money, work, and patience. NOT for me.  :)Around 1966 I knew a young man who bought a new ’66 – 427 Vette… scared the shit out of him when the front end lifted off the ground. :)

              • Lyle
              • Paul

Auto restoration is definitely a labor of love.  Not for me either.  That 427 Vette is a monster!
The Goats were bad-ass!  Dodge Chargers too.  The GTO design is gorgeous.  I think they call that the DeLorean nose in the front.  I think DeLorean was in charge of design for Pontiac back then.  It is amazing that each car company had its own unique style.  They hired great artist to do the designs then, each with his own flair.  Now, all the cars look the same.  Sad.I could have bought a 1969 Pontiac Firebird 400 for $5000 back in 2005.  I hesitated and when I went back, it was gone.  A day late and a dollar short.  Story of my life!

Screwdriver Lady from Saudi Arabia buying the car. Too funny.

    Gotta love German tech!

    • http://overthepeak.com/wordpress/ Mystic

It shows what can be done……..but, I ask myself…..can it really be done like that (in…..say……Greece~?)

      • axionication1

pc not. The peoples are not the same.

        Viva la diffe’rence.

            Off & on I guess.

            Tired does not help.
